As a seasoned multi-instrumentalist musician, singer-songwriter and multi-genre composer, nothing irks me more than inept, lazy musicians (I use the term very loosely in this instance) who don't have a single thread of originality and who cannot be bothered to sit down and write a song / tune of their own, but are happy to leech off more talented and competent musicians and then have the audacity to pass the work off as their own!
Before I press on, lets spin back in time a little to the eighties and beyond, where 'sampling' and remixing was nascent.
This was the first sign of leeching from successful artists, bands and their hit songs. These LCD (lowest common denominator) leeches took parts of songs, choruses, riffs etc and inserted them into another inferior piece of musical dross in order to beef up a bad product and trade in the success of a hit song.
Bringing things up to date, we're now seeing the fall out from AI whereby AI companies have been paying record labels to trawl their catalogues to train AI to leech off artists by creating fake, non human artists and bands, therefore robbing artists of an already diminishing pool of earnings.
Many voices of dissent are now being heard but I wonder if it's too little, too late!
